Well That's Impressive California!

When my husband mentioned that McDonald's was giving out free coffees through January 22nd I got a little more than excited. Free? Coffee?  What words could sound more perfect together?  Unfortunately  (or fortunately, I guess) there aren't too many Mickey D's in the area.  BUT there is one on Santa Monica Blvd that I pass everyday while driving husband to and from work 3 times a day (more on that later).  I finally stopped in and bounced inside to receive my free cup of deliciousness when I saw THIS SIGN.....

Oh yeah. California requires this sign be displayed in all fast food joints that "brown" or "fry" their foods.  I am not sure why this poison ends up in coffee but all I know is that it is not natural and not something I am going to be putting in m body anytime soon.  I have developed quite the distaste for fast food over the past few years and this just put the final nail in the coffin for me.  I am not sure how anyone can choose to ingest stuff like this whenever there is proof that it can kill you--- if not immediately then at some point through diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol, etc.  It's just not worth it.

Naturally, right after this I hightailed to husband's new place of work and let him be my "personal trainer".  It went pretty well, but I met an actual trainer who looks and acts JUST like Eddie Murphy (no joke), except super buff.  He is going to meet with me and start doing some things so I can get all big & swoll.   And hopefully tanned while I am rooftop as well because Lord knows I am pretty much glow in the dark in that picture up there.  Embarrassing.  (but not enough not to include it in this post. duh).

Now, for the fun part!  I have talked my husband into doing a VLOG with me answering YOUR questions about:  sports related injuries, injuries and recovery in general, health, training (working out, running, etc.)  Any and all questions are welcomed.  Shin splints? IT Band pain? exercises on the go?  opinion on when you should get an MRI?  Seriously, let him have it!

Comments on this post will be private so if you have a question you feel is embarrassing the whole world won't see it.  I can't wait to see what you come up with, I would like to see if you can stump him!

over & out,
ashley

  1. Yay, I am excited for the vlog!! I have the worst shin splints (more specific: compartment syndrome) and I can't run everyday or I would be in a wheel chair haha.

Is your other car not in Cali yet?

  6. Jealous that you get to have your own personal trainer!! Great view.

About the caner warning... You will notice it is EVERYWHERE in California. Going out to eat? You can get cancer. Having a romantic "stay"cation in a beautiful hotel? Cancer. Going grocery shopping? Cancer. You will notice signs on almost all buildings. Lol.

But one of the best things about being in California is I will now forever dislike fast food (besides Chick-fil-A). This state makes sure you have better options for a quick meal.

  9. How long are you guys in California for? Or is it just a "wait and see" kind of thing? My husband and I move every 6 months and I can barely handle that. I can't imagine even SHORTER periods between moves! Also we're only back and forth between two locations, so that helps :)

  11. Yikes! I had MickeyD's caramel mocha today!! Sooo good but not worth the chemicals. Back to Starbucks I go for my $4 drink...

That rooftop gym is ingenious. I want one.

Hope you have a great weekend, sweetie!

  13. I looked up the cancer thing and it can naturally occur in all coffee, brown bread and cooked/browned potatoes. Fries, potato chips, TOAST! It does occur more when things are cooked at higher temperature. It was my science lesson of the day!

  14. I was curious so looked up the cancer thing. I read that it is something that naturally occurs in coffee, browned bread, and cooked/baked/browned potatoes. Coffee actually has the highest levels! Not that McDonald's or fast food is good for you, but the restaurants aren't putting it into the food. It does seem to appear more in potatoes cooked at higher temperatures. Thought I would share my new knowledge!

  15. I really like that McDonald's is required to have a sign that states what is in their food. I've heard that CA is healthy conscious, but this surprised me! I wish ALL McDonald's, or any Fast Food joint, would do this!! But I guess they wouldn't get as many customers. Plus, it IS Fast Food, so it's not like it's not obvious that it's not that good for you.

  16. That's funny that you mention the warning thing for McDonalds cause my sister just got some luggage from california and it had a similar warning on it...so weird! And I agree about the nasty fast food! :)

  17. What does your hubby do? As a former college athlete, I'm always super interested in sports-related injuries.

Any rehab tips for lower back injuries (herniated L5/S1 to be specific) would be awesome!

    Catherine
