A little drive down the freeway will bring you from Los Angeles to Orange County.... Sunday afternoon we landed in Newport Beach. There is a fantastic and super popular spot called Balboa Island that you can take a ferry out to, and we are planning on driving back down and doing that this coming Sunday afternoon. Only this time we will bring Baby Bella, who missed out on all of our fun.
It was a little chilly, (ha! It was 60 degrees but we all felt like we were freezing!) so we didn't stay out for too long. I loved Newport Beach because it was so clean, and along the pier there were dozens and dozens of fishermen catching buckets of mackerel. One chinese man even let me hold his rod.... his pole... crap, that sounds dirty no matter how I say it. Well I held his fishing equipment and got to pose like I had just caught a fish. And then, there were the swings. If I needed proof that I am getting older (I don't, by the way), the swings proved it to me. The seats were tiny and my butt was hurting within 30 seconds, I also can no longer do a "superman" because I am too big. I just kind of layed on my stomach on the swing while adults with small children tried to decide if I was drunk or just an idiot. I think they figured it was a combination. Second, can you believe what a workout it is to swing anyway? I mean you have to be constantly pumping your legs..... talk about feel the burn. Also, apparently infamous '"El Torasco" from that Hoku song from 2000...come on, you must remember it. Here is the link, so you can be nostalgic. The video was filmed in the OC too!
the bottom left pictures is me swinging with a friend, David Welch. He is one of my husband's closest friends (college buddies) and he just moved back to CA from Israel where he was in school in Tel Aviv and serving in the Israeli army. He is crazy like that! And, lucky you, I took a few videos while we were out that day.
That is our friend David, giving his opinion about the fish....
and my husband in the background shaking his head "NO!" haha
My husband always thinks it is hilarious to pretend that he is
taking pictures but really, he is videoing. HAR HAR husband.
AND OH, ONE MORE THING! Remember when Julie and I went to the Dr. Phil taping!?
Well, I made it ON CAMERA! SHE DID TOO! I didn't get a video of her, but I think she DVR'd it and will get the screen shots.... my parents on the east coast saw the show first and told me I made it on so I made sure to have the video camera ready! I should tell you, that although the show material was pretty terrible, I was hamming it up and making really upset faces and hoping one of the camera men would pick me-- I am so glad it worked! I am a star! You can call me hollywood if you'd like :)
Here is me on the video! See me at the 40 second mark!
Over & Out,
A

Dear Hollywood:
ReplyDeleteYour face is PRICELESS at Dr. Phil.
I take every chance I get to swing. Even if it means running to beat a kid to the swing.
=D
Love your pictures!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new founded fame! Can I have your autograph? haha I love swinging! I think it's something that can be enjoyed at any age.
ReplyDeleteThis looks beautiful! And I know what you mean about your husband thinking it's funny to take a video instead of a picture...my husband does that too and he also loves to take pictures before everyone is ready so we usually always have like 2 or 3 awkward pictures before the real picture when he's holding the camera and he thinks it's hilarious...not. Ha.
ReplyDeleteHahahahahahahahahahaha
ReplyDeletePS- tell your husband that I use that trick all the time!
xo,
Mel
Ahhhh I miss California so much! My parents are both from Los Angeles :)
ReplyDeleteYou were in Huntington Beach, love... not Newport. Balboa is in Newport, yes. But that pier and Rubys are in Huntington. Not that it's important, but I went to college there and lived in both Newport and Huntington, so I spotted the difference like a crazy person would. Haha!! :) Want to hear a lil story? Mmm kay. Did you notice the benches on the pier? There are several of them and they all have a name on them. My in-laws bought a bench for their daughter (my husbands sister) who passed away when she was 26. We visit it every time we're home. It's like I'm visiting his sister when I sit on her bench. Glad you love Orange County!!
ReplyDelete*raises hand* Yes, I've been known to rock out to Hoku.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if I have ever commented on your blog before but I have been reading for a long time now and I just wanted to tell you that I love your blog and your pictures and stories....such a great find!!!
ReplyDeleteWe are famous!!! Haha I'll be sure to take some screen shots aka our new head shots :)
ReplyDeleteSo happy you enjoyed Newport!!! We love living there...the island is fun with some cute shops and restaurants. Make sure and get a frozen banana!!
ReplyDeletehahaha I don't know how I missed out on that gem of a song! Congrats on making it on camera! :)
ReplyDeleteBalboa Peninsula is the best!! If you are going back, the Balboa Fun Zone has a tiny little arcade that is fun for a few games!! And to the person a couple comments up, there is a Ruby's at both the Balboa Pier and the Huntington Pier. She was definitely at the Balboa Ruby's. :)
ReplyDeleteI also really love the beach and pier in Newport, but didn't visit nearly enough when I lived in So Cal.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite trip was when we took our German Foreign Exchange student to a diner which was featured on the OC {which he was a HUGE fan of} - it was so cute to see him get so excited :)

ps you look like a pro on the swings!
I used to live in Newport! I miss it SOO MUCH! I can't remember the restaurant name, but it was this fun little spot on the beach with awesome food! This was 4 yrs ago, so can't remember! And I also think there is a fun restaurant on one of the piers that is like a diner. Ruby's I think? Super fun! The island is fun! Nicolas Cage's house is out on Balboa Island too. We saw him with his family one day! If there is a boat tour of the island, take it!
ReplyDeletegosh, i'd love to visit Cali. never been. maybe one day!
