And, new hair! Bam! Adrian did a fantastic job! My hair has been long since the day I met my now husband (because I knew I was going to marry him and that I wanted long hair for my wedding), so a cut has been pretty overdue. I was a little nervous, but we decided to go for it and chop it. You can't see it in this picture but it is a little shorter in the back and angles down in the front. I love it--- a lot!
I would have had more pictures up this morning but our night last night was terrible. First, we decided to test Bella's sedative for the flight on Tuesday. The vet gave her "ace" and we gave her half of a pill (5mg) and within 5 minutes she couldn't stand or walk and looked so scared. The emergency vet by us assured me that this was a normal reaction and the correct dosage. I didn't like her side effects one single bit though. She was confused and scared and at times had difficulty breathing. And it came on SO fast, which was scary. For now we are planning on NOT giving her anything and if once on board she is whining and upset we can try and give her maybe 1/4 of a pill. We will see though, because it was a scary night.
Shortly after that we were home sitting on the couch, husband was e-mailing and I was reading and watching Bella when the shadow of a man came far to close to our windows. I said "what is that guy doing?" and my husband looked up and said "maybe walking his dog?" because there is a small patch of grass right outside our windows. Next, he came directly up against our windows and walked along all three of them, crouched down and peered in.......not TWELVE INCHES from my husband's face. Of course, we freaked out, he pounded the window, jumped up and ran out onto the porch and yelled at him. We called the police just in case this guy was really up to no good and spent the rest of the evening nervous. Husband had his gun locked and loaded and I slept with a long knife by my bed (seriously, what would I even do with that?!?) I guess it just made me feel better.
This morning Bella is back to her almost-normal self and now I am frantically trying to catch up with the +5 hours of work I missed out on yesterday. SO much to get ready before we take off for home! This week on the blog-- posts will be normal for the most part. Wednesday we will have part 2 in the Get Fit Summer Series, and Friday will be Friday's Letters as usual. Other than that I have a lot of food reviews I have to catch up with and will probably be posting mostly those throughout the weekend, perhaps even several posts on one day so I can finally be caught up! I hope everyone had a relatively quiet evening compared to ours!
Over & Out,

p.s. have you ever given your pet a sedative? or acepromazine specifically?
did your pet have side effects? has anyone tried benadryl for travel?

That peeping tom thing? Would freak me out, and there would be no sleeping going on, I'm a little paranoid!
ReplyDeleteThat is a scary night! I can't believe someone was looking in your windows! Poor Bella... I hope you don't have to use a sedative at all.
ReplyDeleteI use Benadryl for my cats when we travel. One sometimes throws up but he's a nervous nancy and would probably puke even without the meds. Works like a charm otherwise
ReplyDeleteAww poor Bella :( I hope everything goes ok for your flight and she doesn't have to take that. And ooooh my gosh, that peeping tom thing would have scared the poop outta me!!!! Glad everything is ok...
ReplyDeleteHi Ashley,
ReplyDeleteI did once give my boxer a sedative so that she would leave an injury alone so that it could heal. I gave the dose that the vet recommended and a few minutes later she couldn't even walk, let alone get herself outside to go to the bathroom. It really really scared me! And the way she was looking at me like, "why can't I move?" was heart-wrenching.This was a few years ago, so I can't remember the medicine name, but I called to see if she would be okay and they said that the first dose usually affects them the most. She also said to try smaller doses, as you were thinking. If she starts to get antsy, just give her the smallest piece you can! I know its scary :/
OMG that is so scary! Who does that? I would have slept with a knife as well. I bet you were freaking out with Bella, poor thing!
ReplyDeleteLove the hair! It's SO CUTE!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe peeping Tom guy is CREEPY!!! I totally would have wanted a knife with me too! :)
Have a great trip... and good luck with Bella! I have never used ACE, but I've given our dogs benadryl before. Maybe try that?
ok, so I was totally expecting like buzz cut, a few spikes here and there, when you said you "chopped" it off, haha!! But I LOVE it! looks so good.
ReplyDeleteand I have never given my dog a sedative, but kids? Psshaw. I drug them up so bad when we fly they have drool coming out of the mouth.
ok so kidding. Ive actually never even given my kids tylenol when we flew. Im always afraid of reverse reactions and then there we are, 50,000 ft up in the sky and what if? I bet Bella will do just great :)
You look gorgeous! Love your hair :) and how creepy is that for you, I would have been freaking out as well! Glad you're okay! Xo
ReplyDeleteI would have freaked out if someone was looking in our windows, and a big knife can do some damage if someone gets close enough lol. As far as pet sedatives, we've never used them but our puppy gets car sick, so we give her gravol - it makes her kinda of sleepy/dopey, but she's still able to walk and go to the bathroom. Good luck with the flight!
ReplyDeleteFor our dogs we use melatonin. It calms them down and works like a charm. One dog doesn't have any side effects, another just pants heavily, which really isn't any different than her normal behavior and can actually be attributed to the fact that there is a storm going on which is why she needed the melatonin in the first place.
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks fabulous - gorgeous as always! I love it!
ReplyDeleteWe have flown home a handful of times with one of our dogs (her name is also Bella) and the only thing that worked for her was actually childrens gravol. Because she's so small, we gave her half a tablet and she was out like a light. She didn't have any side effects and when we go there, she woke up like normal, she just looked groggy and sleepy but was overall her normal self.
Oh, yikes! What an unsettling day!
ReplyDeleteThe peeping tom thing, even if he wasn't up to no good... it's just RUDE. I'd be freaked out, too.
LOVE your hair!!! Stunning Ashley. Poor Bella, glad she is better today. My Nana gives her pup pills to travel and she gets crazy loopy too. Freaky about the peeping Tom, yikes. Glad hubs is a big strong guy!!
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks great!!
ReplyDeleteOh girllll first off, your hair looks fabulous. I seriously LOVE it. AND don't even get me started on the peeping tom thing! I had that happen to me when I was in middle school and I've been scarred ever since. Love you! So glad y'all are okay. <3
ReplyDeletelove the hair! i chopped mine exactly one year ago... and i'm still waiting for it to grow back. stupid move. and the peeping tom!? yikes! i freak out over things like that sooo much! hope Bella is feeling better!
ReplyDeleteWe've used children's benedryl and it works for our little dog. For our larger dog we asked for an anti-motion sickness drug (like dramamine) and it should make her drowsy but not totally knocked out.
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks amazing! Love it!
ReplyDeleteHow creepy...glad you guys saw him and that your husband scared him away. Bizarre.
Creepy! Glad to hear that everyone is safe. Good call on calling the cops. Better safe than sorry!
ReplyDeletep.s. your hair looks fantastic!
Omg Id kill my vet! Airlines dont allow pets to be sedated now anyways, so Idk why theyd give you something. If you go buy Benadryl in chewable or pill form and sneak her half of one in a treat, it will calm her and make her a little sleepy. I give them to my dog during thunderstorms and have never had a problem. My vet said to do this on any airplane trips as well as it is safe for your dog.
ReplyDeleteI love love your hair, it so much fuller now and looks amazing!
A peeping tom?! Omg Id flip. How scary!
Love the hair! I gave Chloe ace one time during a flight and then just used benadryl the other times if she got anxious. Most of them she just wanted to peek her head out of her carrier and she was fine.
ReplyDeleteLove the new do! Gorgeous as usual. You know, you kinda make me sick ;-P
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks great!!! I love it.
ReplyDeleteBut your night sounds intensely scary! I would be so freaked out by all of that, both Bella and the peeping Tom.
I've never given Tex a sedative but my vet says not to give them for flying. I have given him benadryl (he has allergies) and it mellows him out a lot. I bet it'd be good for flying. :)
I love your hair!!!! I would have slept with a gun too. Crazy!!
ReplyDeleteMy dog had ace when she had to have surgery. She was asleep then really loopy for a few hours but eventually came out of it and was her normal self the next day. I give my dogs benadryl and it works beautifully! (My dogs are about 100#s more than Bella though)
Good luck!
OK I LOVE your hair!! Makes me want to do the same now!! The guy outside your window is scary, I don't know how you slept!! Yikes! I think you should either do what you plan, not give Bella any meds unless she absolutely needs it, or try children's benadryl. It works like a charm and is not strong at all. Good luck!!!
ReplyDeleteSO crazy to hear about that guy!!! What the heck, I'd be scared too:).
ReplyDeleteOh and your hair looks FAB!!!
um the peeping Tom? That is NOT OK. I am a psycho about intruders so I would have pissed myself in fear. And this is precisely why I need a gun. My Bff's boss just got his throat slit by 4 guys who broke into his house. He lived, but I kid you not. Make sure all of your windows are locked and doors every single night.
ReplyDeleteOn a more positive note, LOVE your hair. You are so gorgeous! I cannot wait for the next fit post. You give me major body envy.
Absolutely LOVE your hair! You have always been beautiful, but this cut adds to the cuteness!
ReplyDeleteHopefully the creeper from last night got scared off. That is always scary. That is the one thing that makes me nervous about being in a complex. There are just too many people around.
you had a rough weekend :( i'm SO glad Baby B is feeling better. I can imagine how scary that must have been. And a peeping tom?!? NOT cool! Glad Jonathan is locked and loaded!
ReplyDeleteBut on the sunny side, your hair looks fab! So glad you went for the chop! And I have about 4 emails from you I need to answer tonight! Inbox overload...yeahhhh! Have a safe flight to Michy!
Your hair makes me wanna chop mine off. It's adorable!!! You are too cute. I had a peeping tom once as a neighbor, it was so creepy!
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how scary BOTH situations were -- I always get a bit nervous and uneasy when my pup isn't feeling well, and I know I would feel the same if I had to give him sedatives. Here's hoping she won't need them after all! xo
ReplyDeletehttp://dreamingenfrancais.blogspot.com
Goodness gracious it sounds like a long night! I hope things go back to normal for you soon!
ReplyDeleteHair is super cute! Love the tank top too. I'm thinking about chopping mine (which was long for my wedding too) off for summer.
ReplyDeleteOh no. I hope Bella can make it through the flight without the sedative. Our cat had a tooth pulled on Friday and started having seizures the next day, so she is on Valium right now and it's all not good. I hate having to medicate animals. :[ I hope you guys have a fun trip!
ReplyDeleteI love love love your hair!! Would you post more pics of it? :)
ReplyDeleteit looks amazing! i adore it. good call, honey. i can't wait to see more photos of it. i'm sorry about your scare...what a creep! and also, i hope bella is feeling completely back to herself soon. xo
ReplyDeleteThe peeping tom thing sounds terrifying!! Glad you're alright!
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks gorgeousssss!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I took my dog to the vet, he gave him a sedative because my dog is the worst when it comes to going to the vet. He had to get checked up for something and he just could not stay still and was completely acting up. SO we gave him a sedative and at first he couldnt stand up and then he threw up a bit, but after that he was completely calm.
I remember giving him a much stronger dose when I was moving because we have to fly, and he ended up falling a sleep the entire trip
EEEEK! That's so scary. I definitely would have slept with a knife too, even though I wouldn't know the first thing about using it on someone. Glad you are safe!
ReplyDeleteLOVING the new hair do ash! Looks so great on you.
ReplyDeleteJeez woman! Talk about an eventful night!! I am glad your dog is alright, and I'm even more glad that you didn't find any serious trouble with that guy outside your window! Shoot, talk about the kind of excitement you don't want to deal with! I hope everything stays calm until you get back home. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the hair!! It's a little bit longer than I thought it would be since you chopped so much off and it looks great! :) So sorry to hear about Bella... sending positive thoughts and prayers your way! And the peeping tom? NOT cool at all! I would have flipped!
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteWe've never had to use sedatives on any of our pets, but when I want the fish to go to sleep I put on a boring movie, they seriously swim to the other end of the tank, weird things.
xox
How scary - about your puppy and the crazy outside the window! Your hair looks adorable!

OMG, what a freak! Who does that, especially when you're sitting right there??
ReplyDeleteGlad Bella's back to her normal self!
We have a dog who is really agressive and mean (we've learned to deal, just don't let strangers near him), and when it comes time for bathing or haircuts, we have used regular valium. But he's really awful and a full 10mg human dosage barely puts him down enough to not get our faces ripped off, so I definitely wouldn't recommend it for your little girl. Hope you find something that works and isn't too stressful on her!
I think my biggest fear would be someone looking in my windows. I really paranoid about that already.
ReplyDeleteAnd poor Bella! :( I wouldn't be able to deal with that! My golden has long floppy ears so she always has wax in them and it really bothers her, so we have to put these ear drops in her ear.. The worst part is we have to leave them in for like 30 minutes.. she starts shaking her head and rolling around and breathing so heavy.. I honestly cried the first time seeing it, but the vet said that's normal.
Ok, that's just weird! Hubs & I both have our conceal & carry permits, so we would have done the same thing your hubs did. So strange!
ReplyDeleteLove the hair BTW! = )
DROOLING over your hair and that edit. YUM!
ReplyDeleteWhat a CRAZY night! Dang, both of those things would freak me out, too!
ReplyDeleteI love your hair and would also like to know where you got your top, so cute.
ReplyDeleteGlad your Bella is feeling better too.
Tab
Precious haircut. It looks so healthy & pretty.
ReplyDeleteWay to go!
That peeping tom thing is scary...I would have been the same way if that happened.
ReplyDeleteIN LOVE with your hair. Can you PLEASE come tell me how to cut mine next?;)
ReplyDeleteSo scary about Bella, it breaks my heart for her. I can't imagine the confusion they must go through not knowing what's going on.
And peeping tom guy is creepy. Like straight up. Did the police end up doing anything?
OMG that's really scary!!!! I'm glad you guys were ok. I don't know that I could sleep if some creeper had been outside my window :(
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks super cute! It's funny because it's long to me but short to you. Like my friend Sarah today she was so upset that her hair dresser cut off too much but it was as long as mine. :)
Super pretty :)
OMG that's really scary!!!! I'm glad you guys were ok. I don't know that I could sleep if some creeper had been outside my window :(

Super pretty :)
LOVE your hair! The length is perfect for you!
ReplyDeleteAnd seriously.... what a freaky dude! I'm so glad you guys were well armed when you went to bed :) Seriously though, how weird that he PEEKED in your windows! AH!
I love love love the hair girlie! super cute & adorable on you. I am so sorry that you had to deal with a peepin tom last night! I would have had my glock right next to my bed the whole night & I would have shot his head off & so would the hunny he would have shot the man too! Scary....I am glad you all are ok :)
ReplyDeletelove the hair and that sounds like a scary night...glad you are alright!!! be safe!
ReplyDelete1. Hair is gorgeous.
ReplyDelete2. That peeping Tom is creepy.
I'm pretty sure I would have peed in my pants/cried all night/stayed at a hotel if that had happened to me...you are much braver! I hope he never ever comes back!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love love LOVE the hair, Ash! It's adorable on you!
I looooove your hair!
ReplyDeleteDoes Bella need a sedative? Has she flown before and not liked it? We flew with my Bella (twice now) and she hasn't taken anything and has been fine. Buttt if she does need something to calm her I would use Benadryl.
Oh my gosh, peeping tom! I would have cried. And seriously, I sleep with a knife by my bed when the husband is gone. It makes me feel better. And I've watched enough Lifetime movies...I'd stab that intruder!! Haha. Okay, on to less vulgar topics, I love your hair! Like LOVE! You are gorgeous!!
ReplyDeletepoor baby bella! glad that you tested it out before the trip and hope she does okay.
ReplyDeleteas for the creep peering in your window... thank goodness you were home. i feel confident that even if he WAS up to no good... your husband probably scared him off for good.
Hot hair lady!!! Looks SO GREAT!
ReplyDeleteand poor little Bella!! I hope your trip goes well and she's able to do okay with the drogas!! (:
um peeping tom freaking scary!! your knife thing was smart though ha I'd do the same!!
Your hair looks amazing! And that guy sounds so so creepy! I definitely would have slept with a knife by the bed too.
ReplyDeletewe ALWAYS use baby benadryl and it works wonders. we have a tea cup yorkie who weighs 3lbs and two 5lb chihuahuas so we are always scared to give them sedatives but benadryl saves our lives on car rides and flights.
ReplyDeleteyour hair looks super cute! omg how scary that the guy was creeping...not cool!! my husband would have had his gun locked and loaded too. no one messes with our men!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your hair, and that outfit!
ReplyDeleteI love the hair and I love the print on that top!
ReplyDeleteModern Modest Beauty
Ugh - Giving my cat ANYTHING always freaks me out - so I would say NO - don't give a sedative unless your pet appears stressed by the situation and traveling accomodations.
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks great!!
ReplyDeleteHoly crap that is really scary. I've never had that happen, and not quite sure what I would do in that case, but I guess your adrenaline takes over, and who knows!
ReplyDeleteYour hair is sooo cute. I can't wait to see it in person!
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks so good!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your hair! I have been debating cutting mine (and it needs cut like WHOA!), so you may have given me the push I needed! So cute! Also, scary night you had! Glad your dog and you and the hubs are OK!
ReplyDeleteHey Ash! Your little peeping tom situation actually kind of concerns me. I think you should be really careful... I noticed you "check in" at various locations where you're at and post to Twitter, but keep in mind that anyone anywhere can read your blog, not necessarily just young, harmless females such as ourselves. Those are the kind that comment, yes, but you never know who's reading. When I first started blogging, I was harassed online by some crazy woman, for quite some time... like, it was incredibly weird and scary. That taught me a huge lesson, and now I never put any information out there that someone could use to find me at any given time. Just think about that. You're a gorgeous girl, so you need to be even more careful!
ReplyDeleteI flew home with my Sadie Mae for Christmas and she did very very very well. What is great about the plane is that even if she whined a little bit, it was so loud that the person sitting next to me didn't even know she was there until we were de-planing.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, let us know how it goes!!
Love your hair btw!!
Oh no! Poor Bella. I can't even begin to imagine what my dogs would do on a plane! Good luck...Hope she does well and you don't have to give it to her.
ReplyDelete
