Last night after lots of convincing and coaxing (and bribing) the husband ventured to his first ever hot yoga session with me.  It's tough finding a new workout class or group that fits your style when you move from place to place, but I have been trying out this studio less than a mile from us because its so convenient.  So far the classes have been hit or miss, and last night-- bless my husbands heart-- was an epic miss.  I knew it was going to be bad when we began the class with three "OMMMS" and I busted out laughing.  I couldn't help it, I knew what the husband was probably thinking and I just lost it.  Our instructor was a chinese girl who didn't quite have a handle on the English language and her style was the most aggressive, non-flowing, non-focused-on-breathing ever.  Literally, like an army captain she paced the room shouting "okahy, nowww down dah! lunge! cobwa up! up! lift! OFFER YO HAWT! now lunge! down dog agin!" It was like for an hour and a half.  And then near the end, when I thought I couldn't take it anymore she turned the lights off and played Mulan music  for 10 minutes, pacing the room banging on hand bells.   It was the craziest yoga experience I have ever had.  I had to bite my tongue the entire session and as soon as we got out of earshot of everyone I looked at husband and he said "that was pretty good" and I just had to laugh. Hey, at least he has a positive outlook much like the ladies you are about to meet!    They all have a special place in my heart and I am excited to introduce them to you!

  1. I've had a class like that one. It was my regular studio, but a sub. She was very DIFFERENT- she went around rubbing oil on our hands, which made it difficult to grip/hold poses. She 100% turned off the lights at the end (about 15 min before class was scheduled to end) and then gave us all a mini face massage, while tripping over water bottles. It was so strange & the owner of the studio was actually in the class taking it...haven't seen her again. :) Glad your husband enjoyed it!

  6. LOL- I think that yoga experience is what I've just always imagined ANY yoga experience would be like. I've never tried it, but I wouldn't have been able to make it through a class like that! Too funny!

Being a newlywed myself ( I guess I can still claim that), I always look for people who have newlywed adventures like my own.. married, moving and looking for what's next. I look forward to linking up on Friday's with you from now on... and I am catching up on older posts. Thanks for the good reads.

  10. I got Tim to go to a yoga class with me a couple years ago. He was actually better at some of the poses than I was. How does that work?!

The worst for me is when an instructor plays "calming" music and then the cd starts skipping. It's like, really?

  11. That is so awesome. You're husband is hilarious. I doubt mine would go to yoga, probably because I have never done yoga either ha!

I'll check out your suggestions too!

  16. Hubs and I got o Bikrim occasionally. The room is heated to 103, and it is very flowing! 90 minute classes, first 60 upright and then 30 on mat. Just be ready for scantily clad individuals, my first class the nice looking man in front of my was in nothing but his Calvin Kleins. You should look it up online and try it.
