This past Sunday the Golden Gate Bridge celebrated 75 years of existence. Despite the weather calling for blustery temperatures we decided to make the trek into the city to see the city rally around a beloved landmark. We hopped on local transit, the "Bart" which (within five minutes aboard) I not-so-lovingly renamed the "Fart"-- I am sure no one has been so witty in the past to call it that before. It really smelled, and after that we had to take a bus. Let's just say there is a reason I avoid public transportation at all cost. But we arrived in the city, unscathed (albeit with that lingering smell of fart following us for a few blocks) and made it to the celebration! The festival spread out from Pier 39 and the Wharf all the way down to the Presidio near the base of the bridge. We wandered along, got free iphone cases from Speck (limited edition anniversary cases--pretty cool), ate out of food trucks (finally!) and began to realize we were in for a long night as the temperature began to drop. I quickly began to feel like we were back in Michigan mid-winter when my arms went numb from the elbows down and I couldn't feel my face anymore. Thankfully, once the fireworks show began we forgot all of that because the show was pretty spectacular. Fireworks lit up the sky, shot from boats and from the bridge itself. We felt really lucky to be living in the area during this time to be there and witness a small piece of history! It almost made the 2 hour 3 mile trek back to the nearest Bart Fart Station bearable. DON'T ASK... let's just say we got our workout in for the day! Here are some of my favorite photos, enjoy!

Looks like such an awesome celebration! Love the photos.. not loving how you smelled like fart, but hey, it gave me a good laugh! haha
ReplyDeletealso- I am in shock and how bundled you all are! It was horribly hot and humid in Ohio, got up to 96 degrees + this weekend!!
Wow, that looks like so much fun! It makes me wish that I lived around there. I love the picture with Alcatraz in the back, too. My fiance and I cannot wait to go see the museum there and everything in the future!
ReplyDeleteLove this! It would have been so cool to be there in person, but you did a great job of recapping it! :)
ReplyDeleteI lived a block from the beach you guys were sitting at...best place in the world to live in my opinion! And yes, Bart and the bus are not great, but you learn which routes and times are the cleanest :)
ReplyDeleteI was not able to make the celebration this weekend due to family commitments and am so bummed I missed the fireworks AND the iPhone case giveaway. Let me know if you walked away with a few extras :)
Absolutely AMAZING pictures! It's so weird for me to think about it being "freezing" out on the West coat lol, I know it's possible but I'm always picturing sunshine and bikinies! ;) Looks like a great time- your pictures of the bridge are gorgeous
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! Thanks for sharing! I've only been to California once, and unfortunately was not able to see the Golden Gate Bridge while we were there. Such a beautiful sight at sunset. :)

I feel your pain about the Fart, I had to take it to work every day and I did not enjoy it one bit. My mom called it the Bart Fart. I'm glad you survived ;)
