If You Really Knew Me

Just as Jenni noted she was copying this from another blogger, I am blatantly copying this from her today too....
My lovely friend Shauna Veasey took this photo of me.  If you live in Georgia you should book her!
If you really knew me…
+ You’d know that I didn't start brushing my teeth at night until I met my husband.  And sometimes I still don't.

+ You’d know I love food more than (almost) anything else. And my main motivation for working out is so I can eat almost anything I want.

+ You’d know that I experience pain and exhaustion almost every single day, but try really hard to ignore it.

+ You'd know that I make Bella Louise talk to me, strangers and homeless people on a daily basis.  You would know that she has a cussing problem (mother-effer to be exact) and sings Christmas tunes year round (Jingle Balls, Santa Paws is coming to town, etc).  You would also know that she has had a short-lived, yet torrid affair with Justin Beiber and they just broke up because he is always on tour and is cheating on her with some girl named Selena.

+ You’d know that I am a walking contradiction.  On the one hand, I am okay with living away from my family members, and can be very independent, but on the other hand I want my husband's constant attention, time and validation.

+ You’d know that I would rather spend $100 on sushi than buy a new pair of shoes.

+ You’d know I am a little obsessed with Anne of Green Gables movies,  historical period pieces, and anything made by the BBC.

+You'd know that I am actually a pretty good rapper.  Only a few people have seen this in action.

+ You’d know that I rarely brush my hair.  But I am working on that one.

+I was ready to be a mom like, yesterday.  And being patient is not my forte.

+ You’d know I am excited and terrified at my venture into professional photography.  I am constantly editing pictures thinking "I suck. These suck.  Why am I doing this?  I am not good enough".  I realize that I will most likely never be satisfied with my work, which will be good and push me to be better, but I also realize that I have to kick that negative voice to the curb every now and then.

+You'd know I can rarely stay up past 10p.m.  I know, it's sad.

+ You’d know I am nostalgic and basically "miss" every place I have ever lived or been in.  If I could live in ten places at once I would be happy.

+ You’d know I have a very sensitive soul.  In my younger years I would snap back at rude comments, be mean and not care if someone had hurt my feelings. These days, it just makes me sad when people are full of hate.  I try and portray Christ through my actions instead of retaliate and while some think this is a weakness, really it is just my trying to live a life that I have been called to live by the grace of God.

+ You’d know I love a good dance party.  If it includes rapping, aluminum foil grills and referencing the trap? Pshh, I. AM. IN.

Over & Out,
A

I can rarely stay up past 10 ... sometimes not even past 9.

  2. Hi Ashley - just so you know, I love your photography! I just found it a few weeks ago and think it is beautiful! I just started my own photography and it took my a whole day to find the courage to post my website on my facebook. Keep at it, you have talent!

  3. If I really knew you and didn't just follow your life through this blog and live on another side of a really rather large ocean to you... we'd be kindred spirits (or can we still be in an internetty sort of way?!)

  4. Hahaha girl I am with you on the food thing....I workout to eat what I want! Food is an experience for me and I work hard to deserve it...you only live once!

  5. I love this! I'm 2 years into starting a photography business and I hate to tell you, but those thoughts don't go away. I'm always comparing myself to others and thinking my work looks like complete crap. Its so hard to get out of that mindset! Keep up the great work, I'm loving what I'm seeing!

  6. Never ever every think you are not good enough of a photographer.

I think you have a great eye for composition and capture your subjects personalities very well. Everyone has to start somewhere and you'll just get better and better as you go. However, I don't think the fear that the client will hate your work every really goes away. Just remember they booked you because they saw your work, and if they didn't love it they'd go to someone else. :-)

  19. I am the same about my teeth! haha... oh and I used to not care when people were rude or mean to me... I had no problem firing right back with something equally as rude but now I just care way too much what people think. :(

  21. You are an amazing photographer!

While I do make sure I brush my teeth every night, sometimes I don't floss. Maybe that makes us a bit even :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. So cute - thanks for sharing!
p.s. Wanna grab sushi sometime? :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love all of your pictures! Stop being so hard on yourself!

I can't go to bed WITHOUT brushing AND flossing my teeth. I feel gross otherwise.

I don't make my cats talk, but I'm pretty sure I sometimes talk to them more than I talk to the rest of the people in my house. Totally normal.

  24. You are an amazing photographer! Get that through your head, lady! ;)

I always let things get to me- what people think, rude words... I always care too much.

  25. I know you weren't looking for confirmation, but I have to tell you how amazing your photos are! I was just thinking yesterday as I was looking at them how incredible it is that you are already SO good to have just started! Seriously, I love them and you need to get your little butt down here before you move so you can take some of us! :)

  26. First.... rapping VLOG, please?! I think we all need to some proof that you can actually rap :)

Second, I totally relate to the mom thing. I'm SOOOOO ready and so wishing that I could start working on that now. But, I believe that God has a plan, so it will happen when it has to happen. Maybe they will have invented a patience pill by then?! ;)

  33. I might have to steal this from you and Jenni! I rarely brushed my teeth at night until recently. Bella Louise does have a dirty mouth. I have experienced it first hand on our coffee dates;)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I loved this little peek into your life :) I too tend to cling to my fiance, and I LOVE food haha. I'm kinda bad at brushing my teeth at night too, especially when I'm dead tired. And I love your photography, you take beautiful pictures. (but as I told my engagement/wedding photographer, {who also said she always thinks she didn't do a good job but her stuff is brilliant} i feel that if you're constatly worrying about your work not being perfect or good enough, it's a sign of a great artist :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I LOVE Anne of Green Gables too! Did you read all the books also? :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I just love these posts...I think they're a fun way to really get to know each other. thanks for sharing, and I might just have to follow your lead and try it too. :)

  37. I share many of these same traits! I didn't brush my teeth at night, either, until I met my husband. I am also a walking contradiction, I don't brush my hair, and I am one of the most nostalgic people I know! Very interesting post!

  38. I LOVE the Anne of Green Gables movies!!!!

  39. I love this! I sometimes forget to brush my teeth (and wash my face) at night too - horrible I know! I used to be in love with Anne of Green Gables! When I was about 11 I would just watch it over and over. I haven't seen it in years and I would love to watch it soon!

    ReplyDelete
  40. This was fun! I didn't brush my teeth at night until after I got married...and sometimes I still forget, too. The hubs picks on me about it, haha! But...yeah. We're gross..

My husband recently had some bloodwork done and was positive for ANA, which means he could have lupus? Um.. he has to see a rheumatologist but... your always tired and in pain? It sounds just like him... =( We were thinking it may have been early-arthritis or something? But..now it's kind of scary.

    Anyway...fun post. :)

  41. I love this idea!... and I'm exactly the same in the sense that I'm very very independent from my family members, but always want Jurgen's undivided attention. I've often wondered why it's like that?

  42. 1. Your pictures are awesome!!
    2. Anne of Green Gable is my favorite. My best friend growing up had red hair and I was always so jealous!
    3. I barely brush my hair either.
    Great post!

  43. I tend to call myself an old lady because 10pm is getting way late for me! it really is sad!

  44. This is awesome!
My husband never brushes his teeth at night...it drives me instance, but makes me feel somewhat better to know that other people don't either.
And I'm with ya on the mom thing. Waiting sucks.
Oh, and your photography rocks, so no worries there!

  45. I loved this post and it's great to get to "know" you better. I think you totally have an eye for photography. I love the feel of your images. And editing to me stinks! It's my least favorite part. I just like taking the pics. Ha.

It's funny you don't brush your teeth at night. My husband doesn't either. He brushes them in the morning instead and I don't because I eat my smoothie in the car and it would be yucky with mint breath. Ha.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh how fun! Jenni got the idea from ME, and then I happen over to your blog today, and see yet another "If you knew me..." Love it! I adore Anne of Green Gables too...and all things BBC. Can we just have a kindred spirit moment please? Ok, moment over. I'm with ya on the "I work out so I can eat anything" bandwagon too. :-) Oh, and is little Bella still doing ok? I remember we chatted a little bit about her poor leg awhile back... Hope you're having a great Wednesday!

  47. This was great! Your photos are amazing. Dont be so hard on yourself!! I was ready to be a mom yesterday too. Come on fertility gods!! :( and I also suck at being patient.

  48. Love your version of this too, Ash! I was low on blog material for today too, so it was perfect. ;)

I hear you on the occasional negative self-talk re: photography stuff. But you do NOT suck. Period. And you will only get better and better. There is such a huuuuge learning and experience curve.

Have a nice evening, pretty girl!

    C. God has the perfect time he wants to introduce you to a baby...but it's exciting to know that God already has your family picked out.
And D. How are you marketing your photography business? Now that I've got my site up- I've been trying to figure out how to attack marketing it beyond just people I know.

  58. I've been oohing-and-awwing over your photography for months. Your pictures are insane! You are ridiculously talented!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. You should totally do a rapping video. AHahaha. Girl that hair stuff I'm with ya. Being patient to be a mom is a blessing & a curse! You have amazing talent, don't let your over thinking tell you otherwise. I sometimes have such a hard time staying up past 10 pm when I'm up at the crack of dawn. Not sure you do, but I know I find it difficult. & that's what makes you a great soul. I have a pretty similar outlook on people with hate. Seriously though, you have to get on that video. ;)

  60. Im pretty sure we are soulmates and that you should hop on a plane to Germany asap. We can eat sushi, rap nonstop, and watch Anne Of Green Gables all day.

  63. Hahaha I didn't start brushing my teeth at night until like a year or two ago when I finally went to the dentist again. Glad I'm not the only one!

ALSO -- your photography is beautiful, and you have no choice but to improve if you keep at it. It's always so easy to think those negative things about ourselves, but make that extra effort to find something positive about what you're doing each day -- one thing new you've learned or a skill you've mastered. It's helped me stay positive even during the most stressful times at work (i.e., the past month ack!). ALSO -- I'm the worst at mailing things, so if you want to send me your Michigan address, I will get you that Photoshop book! :/
