Fall is very near here in Michigan. The leaves have already started to change and the mornings bring a crisp chill that cuts through sweaters and scarves. Fall has always been a favorite of mine for the very reason spring is a favorite to others--- the newness of it all. Fall typically isn't associated with "new" things, after all everything is slowly dying and retreating for the winter. However, I find it cathartic, and purifying. To me its like a huge cleansing, preparing for better things. I love the idea of it--- the coldness of winter cleansing the earth. That sounds a little hippy dippy, I know. But secretly (or now, not so secretly) it stirs something inside me. These chilly fall mornings have brought a lot of productivity to me, and I have been worshipping to some amazing music. Music is probably one of the most important things to me. I discovered I could carry a tune a few years ago and have since been helping & leading worship. Currently I am participating at a church here in Kalamazoo. Music is truly my kind of worship. Some people meet Jesus through prayer, a great message or serving, but music is truly where I find myself completely vulnerable at the feet of the Lord. Sometimes in the mornings my worship time just consists of singing songs to God--- its not for everyone. People like my husband for example don't connect through music the same way I do. I literally tear up at good songs. I have embedding a youtube video below of one of my favorites right now. I think it is so powerful, and if music is your sort of thing you might enjoy it as well. Sometimes the words, melodies and harmonies of a song say all the prayers from my heart--- prayers that sometimes I can't seem to put together. Words that I am not even aware that I want to say. I love that. Like the fall, it is cleansing and rejuvenating. I hope you are blessed today, and find a way to worship with words, songs or simply silence. Happy Tuesday!

Thanks for sharing a BEAUTIFUL song. Music is definitely my "thing" too.... I love to sing, constantly and everywhere I go. I tear up over just about every song out there :)
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing, ashley! i actually went to that church for a short bit during an internship in the summer. they're music was amazing. i have done music ministry for 13 years- i feel so close to the Lord when i worship through music. my husband sounds similar to yours- isn't it amazing how God makes us feel Him so differently!

ReplyDeleteMusic used to be the easiest way for me to connect to Jesus and worshiping him.
ReplyDeleteI started going to an Anglican church, and suddenly the honor and reverence that was given to God throughout our entire service was part of changing my way of worshiping. I've always prayed a lot. Especially through journaling. It is still very important to me. And just taking in the beauty that surrounds me, especially in the beautiful mountains where I live.
It awes me that God created them.
I don't know if you have read Augustine, but I recommend reading his confessions. It is very thought-provoking and causes me to become more and more in awe of the God we serve.

SUCH a great song! I totally agree that music is such a wonderful way to meet the Lord in worship. So awesome that you found a great church in Michigan!
ReplyDeleteI agree with your hippy dippy side I see fall as a fresh start, the cold changes every thing and wipes away the summer.
ReplyDeleteI am not able to carry a tune but I do love my 40 minute commute to just sing and praise the Lord. I've grown to really enjoy that part of my day.
Thanks for sharing that song! Very Powerful.

ReplyDeleteI truly believe that we can worship God in every little thing we do here on earth. I, like you, feel the closest to him through music. I seriously get cold chills when certain songs come on. It is incredible how he reaches us. Thank you for the new favorite song as well!
