I overexposed by 1 f stop for this picture, no flash was used. ISO at 100. *answer to a comment on this post!

I mean-- so adorable, right?  This is one of the pictures I took at a session last week. So sweet.

This week is going to be a week of catching up.

Catching up on photo session edits, catching up on mail (I have over 9 thousand emails in my blog inbox....ouch), catching up with friends, catching up on blogs and catching up on good reads.

okay, I have a confession. It involves Game of Thrones.
We have a strict television/movie policy in our house.  Basically, if a show is associated with the terms "soft porn" then we tend to shy away from it.  And anything on HBO is sure to be smutted right up because that is the sort of thing HBO watchers expect.  So, this huge smash hit "Game of Thrones" came out and everyone is just talking it up and it is amazing, etc, etc, etc, but we didn't watch it or pay much attention to it because of the above mentioned.  Fast forward to last week when walking through Barnes & Noble a friend who was pushing the book series pretty  hard said "HERE. just read the back cover of the first book and tell me it doesn't sound amazing". And so I did.

And so I was hooked.  I have since purchased book one and am devouring it so far.
It is well written. It has knights and castles and dragons and war and love and murder and mystery.
And well, it is over 1,000 pages and as fast as I read, I really appreciate long books.

Not sure if I will be watching the tv series however (or if I do it will be peeking though fingers and fast forwarding all the sex scenes. which, from what I hear are often).

So have any of YOU read the books are watched the series? Are they really as smutty as I hear?
Am I going to regret reading these books?  Thoughts?

Let me have it :)

P.S.  Remember last year when I was selling custom mugs for Christmas presents on my etsy shop?
I was THINKING about re-opening just for the holiday season.... good idea or not?
I WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!

custom mugs & leash----  just a few products from the etsy shop...

  3. I LOVE Game of Thrones and what I love the most is how close they have kept it to the books! As for smutty ness... Well, personally I think The Tudors was much worse. I do recall some at the beginning that is sorta crucial to the storyline... Then there's a little here and there but I think there was only one part that really bothere me and it wasn't until the second season. It seemed unnecessary and rather full on. The rest tends to be much of what you would see in a movie?

It's been a while since I watched though so my memory may be foggy. But I think the other 90% makes up for it! My fiancé and I watch this together and with our tastes there are very few shows that appeal to us both so we love that!!

  5. I have not read the books but I watch the series and I can tell you that, yes Season 1 had a lot of boobs and sex. But Season 2 really didn't have as much sex or boobs. It was still there, but not nearly as much as in Season 1. I have also heard that the writer is a screenwriter on the show so the show follows the books for the most part. Obviously it doesn't follow exactly, but if you like the books I would try the series. I know there is one scene that is VERY important in the series that has 2 women going at it. I had to rewatch it after the season ended and really came away with some vital information, but it was hard to concentrate on what was being said because of the ladies.

My advice, give it a try. If you can't get through it, don't worry about it.

  6. My husband has read the books all. of. them.(loves them!) and has seen an episode or two of the tv series. The books are on my must-read list right now, however... we both agree with you about the tv series. Neither one of us are keen (or even ok) with the trash (that's what we call it) on HBO. But, we've made some exceptions with this show... Right now, we've chosen not to watch the tv series. It's a conviction we both feel. Besides, the books are ALWAYS better... right?

  11. That picture is ADORABLE!!! Seriously... so sweet! :)

Jake and I love Game of Thrones, and I don't think it's too "pornish". Every so often there is a boob or something, but it seems to flow well with the show. I have been thinking about reading the books, maybe I will!! :)

  12. Game of Thrones is amazing! I have the entire series in paperback. I stopped reading on book #4 because the characters are just not anyone that I really care about reading about. Maybe one day I will finally finish it!

  13. You know how I feel! The series is AMAZING and the books were incredible. The sex in the show is a lot of boobs, butts, and implications (even on HBO they can't just show it :) and even though there is a lot of it, if people say that's all the show is, they probably either haven't actually watched it or they don't get it because it is all necessary to the (very adult) story line and done well. Honestly, the blood and gore is a lot more gratuitous and that's what gets me. No thanks, severed head.

  14. Honestly, the books are much much better than the TV show. It's not necessarily PG, but it's no where near as blatantly pornographic. Plus, the storyline of the show follows the novels pretty closely, so it'd be a little redundant to entertain both.

  15. Adorable picture!!
I have yet to read the Game of Thrones book but it's on my list. Can't tell you about the tv show because I was waiting to read the book.

  22. That picture is adorable!

I personally haven't read the books, my husband is though. We've watched the who though, and he says they changed a lot in the first season, and there is quite a bit of nudity and sex scenes with a raw quality to them. Enough to make me uncomfortable and Sex and the City is one of my favorite shows, so that's saying something.
